They were after an offset mortgage with no early repayment charges (ERCs) in order to give them maximum flexibility. As well as arranging the mortgage on their new home, we also arranged a buy-to-let mortgage on their existing London property. Again, this mortgage carried no ERCs. This meant that when they finally decided to sell the property, they could do so without penalty. They were also able to use some of the proceeds from the sale to pay off some of their new mortgage without incurring any charge.

CML figures point to slight thawing in availability of buy-to-let funding

Data issued by the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) has pointed to a slight thawing in the availability of funding for buy-to-let investors. Mortgages granted in the second quarter were up 13% on the first quarter and 15% higher than in the corresponding quarter of 2009.
