The traditional self-build and renovation market is extremely niche. Lenders are limited in number, while there is little expertise or knowledge available and limited product development. There is also limited stage release, with lenders only releasing further funds when the property is wall plate level. This can cause cash flow issues as builders need to be paid and materials need to be bought.
