The most considerable gains were seen in the mid loan-to-value (LTV) range although the number of mortgages available to those with a smaller deposit has also increased.
Those with a 20% deposit have seen the number of products available to them increase by 151% - up from 153 to 384 over the past year. Additionally, those with a 15% deposit have access to 470 products today as opposed to 254 a year ago.
The 90% LTV range which is applicable to a number of first time buyers has also seen an increase. In December 2009 there were 116 products in this tier but currently there are 204.
Mortgages in the 75% LTV bracket remain plentiful and numbers have now risen from 586 to 895 in the last year.
The most competitive mortgages are still on offer to those borrowers with at least a 25% deposit. Those with a smaller deposit are seeing some improvement but they can expect to pay a premium on the rate.
