Bank of England holds interest rates at 0.5 per cent in October

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) today announced that it would hold interest rates at 0.5 per cent for the seventh month in a row.

The move was widely expected. We expect inerest rates to be held at this level until well into next year.

The Bank also said it would continue with its programme of quantitative easing for another month. But after that time it is not clear whether the programme will be extended or not. Much depends on the new set of inflation report forecasts, which are due in November.
