Italian mortgages

If you require a mortgage to buy in Italy there are a number of considerations to take into account which can seem daunting.  Most UK lenders cannot take a charge on property overseas and approaching an Italian bank directly for a loan can be fraught with difficulties, particularly if you do not speak the local language or are not familiar with cultural differences. Aditionally, in Italy the lending can vary depending on where you are buying and the type of property you are considering. If you intend to buy a ruin to renovate, you will not find a lender who will lend for the works, as the property is deemed uninhabitable. There may be possibilities once the work has been completed but this is considered on a case by case basis.
